Legislative District 1 Expands Funding for High Quality Preschool by over $1.5 Million

The new money will help hundreds of additional children attend preschool across the district.

(Cape May County, NJ) Team South Jersey welcomed the news that the NJ Department of Education will be sending $1.5 million to South Jersey preschools to expand early childhood education to hundreds of additional children. Senator Sgt. Bob Andrzejczak, Assemblyman Capt. Bruce Land, and Assemblyman Matt Milam fought hard for this expansion in the Fiscal Year 2020 state budget.

“This is personal to me. I dropped my daughter Janna off for her first day of preschool just this morning,” said Senator Sgt. Bob Andrzejczak. “Both of my kids are in Cape May County public schools, so I know how much of a difference this funding makes.”

“This is going to be great for the State.” said Assemblyman Capt. Bruce Land. “We’ve had our disagreements with the Department of Education and the Governor, but it’s good to see the positive things we fought for finally get traction and get moving.”

“If we want New Jersey to retain its young people and attract new businesses, we have to make its public schools the absolute best they can be,” said Assemblyman Matt Milam. “Young parents want their kids to have a future. Small businesses want graduates who are prepared for the real world. Expanding Pre-k helps both. All of the research we have shows that pre-k programs set kids up for success not just in school, but for the rest of their lives.”

According to the NJ Department of Education, Weymouth in Atlantic County will receive $213,006 in additional funding, while Dennis Township and Middle Township of Cape May County receive $622,750 and $687,686 respectively.

This expansion was just one part of the funding that Team South Jersey won in the Fiscal Year 2020 budget. They also fought for and gained over $1.1 million in new funding for special education programs in the district.
