Mike Testa and his running mates claim that they’ll bring taxes down — but their record shows otherwise.
Antwan McClellan, who is running for State Assembly, voted to raise taxes in Ocean City five times while he was in office. Throughout his term, taxes went up a staggering 29%. And that was on top of increasing numerous fees, including on recreation, aquatics and fitness, and even dog licensing!
Erik Simonsen is also running and he is no better, increasing taxes three times while he was in office in Lower Township. And just like Antwan McClellan in Ocean City, he imposed over 30 fees on Lower Township residents. Erik Simonsen even went one step further, voting twice to raise his own pay, even as he charged his constituents more for just about everything.
And Mike Testa, he's the political boss of Cumberland County who picked these two as his tax-raising running mates. It's clear that no matter how much he talks about trying to lower our tax burden, his actions show that he just doesn't care.
"It's just plain hypocritical," said LD1 campaign manager Sam Rivers "If Testa believed half the things that came out of his mouth were actually important issues that need to be addressed, he'd be enthusiastically voting for Senator Sergeant Bob Andrzejczak. The Van Drew Team has consistently cut taxes for constituents. They've doubled the veterans' income tax deduction to $6,000, expanded a freeze on property taxes for our seniors, cut the shore rental tax to improve our tourism industry, cut the boat sales tax, and eliminated beach fees for veterans. The contrast couldn't be clearer."
The members of the Van Drew Team are Senator Bob Andrzejczak, Assemblyman Bruce Land, and Assemblyman Matt Milam. Senator Bob Andrzejczak is a medically retired Army Sergeant who ran for office after losing his leg from a grenade attack during his second tour of duty in Iraq. Assemblyman Bruce Land is a retired Army Sergeant who served in Vietnam. Both received the bronze star with valor for heroics on the battlefield. Assemblyman Matt Milam is a small business owner who built his Vineland based family business up to over 100 employees before selling it in 2018.
